Bienvenue aux États Unis d’Amérique

Hé,

So we’re in the US! Yeah! Feels great to be back. It’s a bit hectic here, can’t believe we arrived 2 days ago, went straight to the Abbey Pub in chicago from the airport, now we’re in NYC. Cooling Down.

(my ipod plays The Velvet Underground as I type these words…so local!)

Chicago was OK. I guess there were just too many bands on the bill, so we ended up performing very late in the morning. Let’s put it this way, it was a good breakfast (for us) warm up gig. The sparse crowd seemed to enjoy it, which was awesome. it felt quite intimate, which is always a great thing.

After 3 hours of closing our eyes while lying on a bed (note:I didn’t use the term sleep), we drove to the airport, where we learned that the flight has beeen cancelled, bim, bam, boom. Delay x 3 hours. Arrived in NYC, straight to the soundcheck (soundchecks are the new hotel checks), managed to take a nap and we made it to the concert.

Opening band the Step kids were pretty good, they sometimes sounded like The Rotary Connection. Then it was time for us to perform.

The show at Mercury Lounge turned out to be one of the most laidback relaxed show we ever played in NYC. It was awesome. We’re still getting our act together, so there were a few bum notes but  overall it was fantastic.  We played 18 songs…almost.  At some point I asked what were the nationalities of the audience (20% French, 25% Americans, 15% Japanese, 10% Chinese, 7.5% Korean, then a few Swiss & Belgian citizens!).

My personal highlight was Gate 33. I said to myself, this is R’n’R.

Then we invaded a nearby bar (It was raining umbrellas, literally!). and we spend the next 3 hours drinking brooklyn lager/ jameson while listening to The Smiths. Reading, the latest Mojo issue, I made a mental note of dressing up like Johnny Marr.  I’ll never play like him, even though he introduced me to Major 7th chords but I’m still working on it.

what a long post.

gotta go. next San Diego!

Love u all.
