Go West!
2 years agoHello,
here’s our (French) West Coast Report!
We only had a few days off to recover from the German and North of France shows. I guess all we did was catching up with sleep and daily life, which is a cool thing to do.
The first show took place in Nantes at l’ Olympic, which has got to be one of the highest stage in France (according to the T80’s book of records). It’s also a really cool classic venue where we had already played twice before. We enjoyed looking down on our fans (as far as physics is concerned). There were a bunch of kids who knew all the lyrics to the songs, they kept asking for Mr Davies. One girl even invaded the stage, she said something in my ear I couldn’t hear, because of my inear monitors…it must have been “play that song about the guys from the Kinks”.So we ended up playing it, in the key of D (I still laugh when I remember Pedro’s face trying to transpose his bass line…he failed and switched to body language).
Then, we drove to le Manège in Lorient which was my fav’ show of the 3. Maybe, because we played football at the harbor (and almost lost the ball 3 times : 1 in the sea, 2 on a rooftop) there was a good vibe, the sound on stage was good, who knows? Anyway, we had a great time. We even went to a nightclub after the show…a nightclub in Lorient? sort of…It was called Le Passeport, and I have to say we were the only males with, somewhat, long hair inside the club. People gave us funny looks, some of us were called “tectonics”. It’s hard to describe how bad the music was, but we didn’t care we were having fun with our friends from Housse de Racket. At some point, we felt it was time to go (one guy, a cop I suppose, proposed to take, mostly, Julien and me to the police station). We left, with Angy and others screaming obscenities in the night…it was fun.
The morning after, we stopped by the sea on our way to Chateaulin’s Run Ar Puns. Once again, the Housse were on the bill, we traded tour games with them. We taught them the -stupid-rules of “Small Papers”, in exchange we played a sort of “Who Am I sort of game”. All of which were performed in the backstage area, giving it a kind of prohibition/speakeasy vibe. Pedro & Raf joined them on stage for their encore (Oh yeah) and they jammed with us on Changes. The show was really good, finished late, we left early (3 hours of sleep), and made it safely back home.
