After the Xmas song, we now have written our first World Cup Song. it’s called “WC baby” or “World Cup” and it’s available here through the We Want 2 Wigoler (wigoler, is rigoler with a w, which means “have a laugh”) blog. This tuesday at Le Motel (Paris), we’ll celebrate the release of the 10”inch vinyl, the games, the coming of summer etc. by performing our song. Some bands involved (Fugu, WHEEL, Lecube…) will perform too! it’s fun and it’s cheap.

Photo

Crack up For Amnesty International

Crack up For Amnesty International:

Hey!

Did you know there was a new T80 song available online?

we recorded “Crack Up” (an A.R Kane cover) for Buffetlibre DJ’s who’ve been producing a HUGE compilation for Amnesty International. Our song has been given out to blogs around the world but you can also get the whole package on their website. it’s for a good cause, so…

We’re almost there, putting the final touches to the songs for our #5 album. It’s too early to describe it (and I’d love to avoid the usual promo crap “our best album to date” “we took risks” etc…) but I guess that it will be quite different from what we’ve done so far. New dynamics, new themes, new grooves…It’s also definitely the first album we do as a six piece, and the 2nd since Puzzle that we do on an indie label. I’m pretty sure it will color the final results. What next? the music will remain in Rouen for a while before traveling to the West Coast of the USA, to the North of Europe and to the fashion capital…waouh, now that’s what I call teasing people!

It’s that time again, WINTER, when we always record our albums. It makes we want to change that routine, so let me write it loud: T80’s 6th album, we’ll be recorded either in summer or at the very least in springtime. That said, we still have to work on album #5 first, which is what we’ve started today.
Good News! It’s happening now in Rouen, at our HQ, our dear T’Lab.
Engineer/producer Tony Lash is on board with us, we missed working with American dudes! Tony is a good friend and was responsible for the sonic architecture of Wallpaper For The Soul.
More on this later obviously.

Bises

X

TAHITI 80 on bandcamp

….and by the way, all the best for this brand new decade.
here’s a musical link for you (it’s kinda hard to figure out the lyrics, but it says something like “Tahiti 80 wish you a happy new year, Two Thousand and Ten”

I really dig Bruce Springsteen’s “Ten” at the end!

X

Two Thousand and nine light years from home

Salut,

2009 is nearly over, let me tell you how it was for us. It went sooooo fast, it’s almost unbelievable.

It started with snowfalls in Germany and ended on an perfect Indian summer morning in NYC.
In between, we travelled all around the globe (Europe, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, South & North America). It definitely felt like a proper world tour, with lots of work and lots of fun.

Highlights:
visiting new countries. Argentina, Chile, Uruguay & Brazil was fantastic.
(Mehdi Z told me yesterday that his credit card has been hi-jacked in Brazil and that somebody is spending 300€ every hour on his account since Dec 21st. Maybe for him, Sao Paulo won’t be such a great memory!)

Best show:

Hard to say which one was the best. But I guess the big Parisian gig at L’Alhambra was definitely amazing. Great venue, great crowd, long set. It felt like the climax of the tour (not that the rest of it felt like going downward), but it discharged us of a lot of pressure.

Spinal tap moment:

-Entering the wrong “Schöndorf” in the GPS on the first day of the German tour. as we got closer, it looked like a small village surrounded by woods. I had to use my best German to get an explanation from a local lady. Anyway, after another 2 hour drive, we made it, and performed in front of 20 people.

-Does the cancellation of the Summer Sonic show in Tokyo due to bad weather enter this category? I’d say yes.

-and How about the earthquake in Taipei?

Catch phrases

-“thanks for playing the game”,” we give a dream, we sell merch”, “I’ve heard some beautiful things”…it could go on and on

Word of the year

- “Tranquignon” = (a contraction of cute & easy, approximately)
an example here:

there was some body language as well: “Gratoucheck”. Too hard to explain here, you’ll have to ask one of us to show it to you.

And the biggest news is that we’re an indie band again, that we’ve started a label “Human Sounds” and that we ‘ll spend the early months of 2010 recording new songs…Obviously more on this later, next year!

An old friend of ours visited us yesterday at our studio and he said more or less that we looked like shit (some more than others, someone whose name begins with a X). Thanks, man. We might look older, thinner but at least it means that we’ve been working hard at the TLab.
We’ve just finished a serie of 3 intensive weeks of rehearsing/ arranging new songs.
To be honest, at times it felt weird, as we now have 2 new “official” members in the band (Raphaël & Julien).
—-2+ 4, means that Tahiti 80 is now a six-piece—-
We soon found out (even though we kinda knew it) that touring & performing live is actually very different from working on new material.
Why? Warum? Perche? Mais Pourquoi?

First, it takes a while to get everybody comfortable enough so they can make comments, express opinions etc.
Secondly, we have to learn to speak the same language, being a musician with absolutely no knowledge of music ( eg “Let’s keep that, erm, “theme “going for the first, erm, 2 bars and then when we get to the chorus let’s stay on that note, erm a D#, sorry a Eb, for erm, a while…everybody OK?”), and being musicians who kinda have telepathic powers as we’ve been playing together for ages, it sometimes hard to communicate ideas to others. Still working on it, but it’s going good.

Now, we’ve got a bunch of songs in stock, some are more advanced than others, some were demoed first, alone or collectively, some were created in the live room, so in the end they all sound quite eclectic at the moment, which is very interesting I think.

The first collective effort to be printed on tape is a cover of A.R Kane’s ‘Crack Up’ that we’re recording for an Amnesty International compilation. It’s been fun and I guess it was very wise to start with a song we haven’t written, so we don’t feel too much pressure working on it.

Hope everyone’s well!

More on this later…

Luv

X

Hi,

We’ve been working hard at the T’lab putting the final touches to the Fugu album and straight after these sessions we set up a lot of gear (all our toys!) in our live room and we’ve been practising, rehearsing new songs ever since. fun. more on this later

thx!
